DRAFT. Plain language, good faith, not yet lawyer-reviewed. To be finalized before public launch.
What this is / Ce que c'est
- Bilingua Quest is a community prototype — a browser game and, eventually, real-world group activities — made in Fredericton, New Brunswick to help adults practice French. The game is free, forever. It is provided as-is, with love and without warranties.
- Expeditions (real-world events): your first is always free. Afterward, pilot pricing is $5.00 CAD per seat (or a 10-seat carnet for $40), all-in — no hidden fees. 65% goes to your Hôte, 15% to a host-governed community fund. Payments are currently in test mode (no real charges) until the paid pilot opens; every scarcity or price number we publish is literally true.
- It is for adults (18+). Real-world gatherings that end at licensed venues are 19+ (New Brunswick's drinking age).
- It is a game, not a school, an employer, or a dating service. Be kind; be patient with learners; anything else forfeits your seat at the table.
Real places, real people / Vrais lieux, vraies personnes
- Real Fredericton venues appear by name, with affection and without affiliation or endorsement. All characters are fictional; no character depicts real staff. Venue owners: we'll change or remove anything on request — one email is enough.
- Trademarks and trade names belong to their owners. Our use is referential.
Real-world safety / La sécurité dans le vrai monde
- If you attend a real gathering: meet in public places, tell a friend, trust your instincts, and leave whenever you want — no explanation needed.
- Community events are volunteer-run, free, and low-risk by design (walking, talking, coffee) — but walking in a real city has ordinary risks (weather, surfaces, traffic), and you take part at your own judgment. Event-specific acknowledgments are signed at check-in.
- We never share your contact information with other participants; exchanging contact is always your own choice, person to person.
The invitation system / Les invitations
- Invitation codes are free, personal, and have no cash value. Scarcity numbers we publish (like "the founding 100") are always literally true.
- Don't scrape, resell, or mass-generate codes — it's not illegal cleverness we mind, it's that it makes the party worse.
Ownership / Propriété
- The game, its art, text, characters (Réjean, Chantal, le Vieux du Pont…), and "Bilingua Quest" branding are © 2026 Kurt Goddard. Personal, non-commercial play and sharing screenshots/postcards is encouraged; commercial reuse needs permission.
- Feedback you send us may inform the project; you keep your words, we don't owe royalties on ideas, and we'll credit meaningful contributions when we can.
Liability / Responsabilité
To the maximum extent permitted by the law of New Brunswick and Canada: the game and site are provided "as is" without warranties of any kind; we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from use of the game or site. Nothing here limits rights that cannot be limited by law. These terms are governed by the laws of New Brunswick and applicable Canadian law.
